Internap has received two separate awards in recognition of environmentally friendly design and construction of its data centers in Santa Clara, California, and Dallas, Texas, the company said Tuesday.
The Santa Clara facility received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) award from the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The data center services provider’s Dallas site received the Green Globes certification from the Green Building Initiative.
Commenting on the LEED certification of the Silicon Valley data center, USGBC president and CEO Rick Fedrizzi said data centers as a sector had high potential for green building.
“By optimizing energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact and earning LEED certification, Internap is at the forefront of that movement,” he said.
One of the things the project scored LEED points for was use of recycled water for its cooling systems.
The facility got more LEED points for reusing almost all exterior components of the structure it turned into the data center. The facility’s energy efficiency features include high-efficiency lighting, HVAC systems and controls.
Internap also bought more than 400,000kWh of renewable energy for the facility
The Green Building Initiative (GBI) gave Internap’s Dallas data center its Green Globes award for reducing the use of potable water, reusing building materials, improving indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
The Santa Clara data center also has the Green Globes award.
